Secrets to Job Application Completion

Here are tips on how to address the need to complete a prospective employer’s request for information about you when applying for a position using an Employment Application.  Note that employers may ask for information at the point of applying that they should only be asking once you’ve been offered and accepted a position.

Note the yellow ‘sticky notes’ on the sample downloadable form.  Place your cursor over these sticky notes to read the comments on how to complete a particular section of the application.  Depending on your computer settings, you may find the sticky notes easier to read if you first download this article.

These application completion guidelines apply for both the paper and the online version of job applications, though online versions, an increasingly used method, have some inherently challenges you have to address.  See other articles in this section for addressing the particularities of online employment applications.
